Openness and accountability are core values we, the citizens of Missouri, demand of all government. And they are particularly important in the Missouri Plan for selecting judges, because sooner or later judges will impact everything from gun rights to family values to jobs, wages, health care and education. Unfortunately, an elite club of trial lawyers within the legal profession currently control the process for selecting judges and they are looking out for their best interests rather than the citizens of Missouri.

I support updates to the Missouri Plan for selecting judges so that our court system will demonstrate openness, accountability, independence and excellence.

Quote
"Though Missouri's current selection system was no doubt originally intended to find the best candidates for judicial office, it is now dominated by members of the bar who often have a particular bias that is not shared by Missouri's citizenry. With three lawyer-members, plus the Chief Justice, the Commission is exceptionally susceptible to corruption by financial and professional interests within the legal profession."
